Silver Dollars

There is a vast history associated with the silver dollar. Its nickname is the "buzzard dollar". The silver dollar wasn't popular at the time that it was created because it appeared to be too large and heavy. However, after the coin was reminted, the coin became more scarce in 1935. This coin was released back into the public in 1972. Silver dollars now retain a notable pedigree for those who like to collect coins. You could be sitting on a gold mine if you have any silver dollars within reach!

Silver Half-Dollars

This half-dollar was first issued in 1964 to commemorate John F. Kennedy. There are some Kennedy half-dollars that are worth way more than others. The first half-dollars were created with 90% silver and 10% copper. In its first year, 160 million coins were produced. The metal and history of this coin help to make it more valuable than what it is worth.

The Walking Liberty half-dollar is known as one of the best-designed coins. This coin was first minted in 1916 and was continued up until 1947. This coin was used during some of the most memorable periods of American history. With each passing year, fewer of these coins exist. Half-dollars made between 1910 and 1920 are typically the most valuable.

The design of the coin includes Lady Liberty in different poses and stances. In 1946, the coin was used to honor Roosevelt because of his support for the March of Dimes.

Lincoln Cents

The penny was one of the first coins made through the United States Mint but didn't look like the penny that we know of today. The first penny had a lady with flowing hair and was made of pure copper. From 1857 on, the penny was then made with copper and zinc. Abraham Lincoln has been on the penny since 1909 with the union shield on the back of the coin, representing when the states joined to be one union.
Bank Notes —
Gold Currency

The first gold coins were made in 700 BC. If you have any gold coins in your possession, you could literally be sitting on a gold mine! Gold was highly scarce and valued no matter what type of exchange was involved. Goldsmiths issued receipts to store gold for society members, which led to turning physical gold into money. The Gold Window concluded in 1971, meaning that no more money could be made into gold.
